Royce White: Draft Day Anxiety

Royce White received a lot of accolades during his only season at Iowa State – Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12 first team, Big 12 All-Rookie team, and honorable mention AP All-American. White also finished the season as the team leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks, making him the only player in Division I to do that. He averaged 13.4 points, 9.3 boards, and 5.0 dimes that showed a very versatile game.

During the NCAA Tournament, he was stellar against the eventual champion Kentucky Wildcats. White scored 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the floor, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block before fouling out. Soon afterward, Royce White declared for the upcoming 2012 NBA Draft, forgoing his junior and senior seasons. There was no question that White was a top ten talent in a very deep draft that many were calling it one of the best in recent seasons.

However, Royce White had a red flag associated with him that would leave many NBA teams passing on him – general anxiety disorder. The below video from Grantland’s new YouTube channel features 24 hours in the life of White before, during, and after the NBA Draft. The Hockumentary was shot by Hock Films and contains some NSFW language:

The Houston Rockets are a very young team and hopefully Royce White will get some burn and prove all of those teams that passed up on him wrong. Extremely wrong. It’s easy to root for White, so we’re going to do that. You should too.
