The New Orleans Pelicans say starting point guard Jrue Holiday has undergone surgery for a stress fracture in his right tibia and will miss the rest of the season.

The club says Friday’s surgery was successful.

Holiday, a former Eastern Conference All-Star acquired from Philadelphia last summer, has not played because of the shin injury since Jan. 8.

In 34 games played for the Pelicans this season, Holiday has averaged 14.3 points, 7.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game in 33.6 minutes. Associated Press

Thankfully, this is not a serious injury with lingering effect that will last into next season. The Pelicans would be wise to move one of their two-guards before next year, but the future for the team is promising. – AL
