‘Saturday Night Live’: Darrell Hammond to Return, This Time as a Voice

With a record-breaking 14 seasons and countless impressions under his belt, Darrell Hammond is set to return to Saturday Night Live, replacing Jimmy Pardo as the voice of the show. Pardo, who voiced the show’s introductions since 1975, passed at the age of 96 in August.

Hammond, who is famous for a wide array of impressions including Bill Clinton, Al Gore, William Shatner, and even Al Sharpton, has filled in for Pardo before, although viewers wouldn’t know it. In 1999, Hammond subbed for Pardo to introduce a James Van Der Beek-hosted episode, and Pardo’s own sister-in-law told him how terrific he sounded, not knowing about the switch.

Now for some intrigue: What voice will Hammond use? His own? Pardo’s? A mix? My vote’s for Shatner. I’ve got to … get outta this place!
