Less prestigious than the Grammys, but certainly more outrageous, the MTV Video Music Awards, or the VMAs, are\u00a0the perfect venue for the world\u2019s most sought-after musicians and celebrities to come together, let loose, and give us something buzzworthy to talk about. This year\u2019s show\u00a0is\u00a0set to air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, August 24 at 9 p.m. EST.<\/p>\n
The VMA stage is a safe haven where stars feel comfortable stirring the pot and taking a few risks. The award show is a bombastic melting pot of superstar egos, booty- and eye-popping performances, and memorable and sometimes uninvited guest appearances. Let’s flashback to Kanye\u2019s intoxicatingly bad judgement call and Taylor Swift\u2019s innocent glare of disbelief.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s show has big shoes to fill, but that\u2019s nothing new. Each\u00a0year\u00a0the show proves more and more unpredictable. Beyonce is set to perform and will receive\u00a0the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, one of the more meaningful awards of the evening.<\/p>\n
According to MTV, the award is presented to \u201cexemplary musicians who have made an incredible and long-standing impact on pop culture,\u201d a category Queen Bey reigns supreme in. And she\u2019s in good company with fellow recipients including, Beastie Boys, Madonna, Justin Timberlake and the King of Pop. Bey is\u00a0up for eight Moonmen on the night.<\/p>\n
Newcomer\u00a0Iggy Azalea racked up seven nominations and will be taking the stage with Rita Ora to perform \u201cBlack Widow.\u201d Despite a nasty fall during the performance<\/a> of her hit single \u201cFancy\u201d during the 2014 MTV VMA benefit concert on August 22, Iggy and Rita are promising a \u201cfierce\u201d and \u201cmysterious\u201d performance<\/a>, complete with serious sequins.<\/p>\n Powerhouse Nicki Minaj is one of the most anticipated performers on the bill with her hit \u201cAnaconda,\u201d along with \u201cShe Came To Give It To You\u201d with Usher, and \u201cBang Bang\u201d to open the show with fellow belters Jesse J and Ariana Grande. Many are looking to Ms. Minaj\u00a0to outdo Miley Cyrus\u2019 outlandish, foam-thrusting antics from last year\u2019s show. After\u00a0hearing one of Nicki\u2019s dancers was\u00a0bit by a snake during Friday’s rehearsal for the award show, we don’t know what to expect. Luckily, the dancer is\u00a0OK.<\/p>\n But Nicki\u2019s triple threat and Beyonce\u2019s praise are not to take away from the fruitful assortment of artists also taking the stage Sunday night.
