This week, in an interview with The Guardian<\/em><\/a> to talk about his current movie What We Do in the Shadows<\/em>, Jemaine Clement confirmed that HBO wants more action from the Conchords (and not just on Wednesdays for “business time”):<\/p>\n

HBO have commissioned a new, four-episode comedy show from Clement and Waititi, he reveals. \u201cIt was supposed to be this year but then we decided to put What We Do in the Shadows<\/em> out ourselves.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

So, what does this mean for the many Bret and Jemaine fans out there? Well, we aren’t exactly sure at this time. The wording of Clement’s statement is vague, at best, with HBO wanting a new “comedy show” from Clement and Taika Waititi (who directed some of the FotC<\/em> episodes). He’s not actually stating that it would necessarily be a revival of the Conchords <\/em>series, even though earlier in the interview Clement does admit that:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talk about a movie every so often,\u201d says Clement. \u201cSometimes it feels like we lost a lot of impetus over the last couple of years. But Bret, James [Bobin, lead director] and me, we all want to do a musical. It would be good to do something all together \u2026 I miss playing Flight of the Conchords gigs.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In the meantime what we do <\/em>have is this new movie, What We Do in the Shadows<\/em>. Well, okay, if you’re reading this in New Zealand, then that last sentence is true. For everyone else, what we have is this trailer. The movie is currently in wide release in NZ but has yet to obtain a proper release date in the U.S. (although it has already screened at both the Sundance and South by Southwest Festivals). What We Do in the Shadows<\/em> is being touted as a vampire horror-comedy, in a similar vein (no pun intended) as Shaun of the Dead, <\/em>and filmed mockumentary style. Here’s hoping it’ll get distribution in the States, or maybe a VoD release date!<\/p>\n
