If you want to see something innovative and beautiful, there’s no better genre than animated series. Here are my choices for the best animated TV shows of 2015.

15. Tokyo Ghoul

This horror anime is perfectly creepy. It’s full of stunning visuals, dark humor and a memorable cast of characters.

14. We Bare Bears

This silly new cartoon network show follows the lives of three bears: Grizzly, Panda and Ice Bear. Their weekly adventures are absolutely adorable.

13. Guardians of the Galaxy

This cartoon follows the adventures of the superhero team from the hit Marvel movie. It has fun, snappy dialogue reminiscent of the movie its based on and tells some pretty intense stories to further develop the characters.

12. Robot Chicken

Robot Chicken is always good for a quick sight gag or accurate parody. This year, their sketch about a CW superfan stood out.

11. Avengers Assemble

This Marvel show does a great job elaborating on the outfit’s most popular superhero team. In an excellent storyline, this season added Ant-Man.

10. Teen Titans Go!

Teen Titans Go can be frustrating for fans of the previous Teen Titans TV show, but if you can accept it as its own separate entity, it’s actually a lot of fun. This show packs in plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and ridiculous storylines.

9. Regular Show

This year Regular Show continued to have its own very unique style. Its signature blend of slice-of-life realism and over-the-top absurdity make for an incredible show.

8. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

The most recent season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic wasn’t as strong as the show’s best seasons, mostly because of an odd tendency to drift away from the core characters and focus on side characters, but it still had some great moments. The episode “Make New Friends But Keep Discord” especially stood out.

7. Adventure Time

Adventure Time is always one of the most unique shows on TV. This year it continued to deliver heartfelt episodes and bold new storylines.

6. Archer

Archer went back to its usual formula this year, after dabbling in a more blatantly serialized approach with Archer Vice. For a show as constantly sharp as Archer, there’s nothing wrong with business as usual. The story and characters are as strong as ever.

5. Gravity Falls

The final season of Gravity Falls was a beautiful, often heartbreaking experience. The strength of the relationship between Mabel and Dipper made this show truly special.

4. Rick and Morty

Rick and Morty is impressive enough for its level of humor and creative weekly adventures. But, on top of that, it told an incredible story this season. Morty showing how much he’s developed by standing up to Rick in the final episode was an astounding moment, that was quickly followed by Rick’s ultimate self-sacrifice.

3. Steven Universe

This show managed to top itself in terms of beautiful visuals, emotional resonance and character development. “Alone Together,” “Future Vision,” “We Need to Talk” and many more incredible episodes explored relationships with a unique level of insight.

2. BoJack Horseman

BoJack Horseman is full of elaborate wordplay and clever joke-writing. It’s also a heart-breaking exploration of complicated relationships and how hopeless life can seem at times. It’s a completely unique show and a must-see for all fans of great comedy writing.

1. Bob’s Burgers

It’s in its sixth season and Bob’s Burgers is shaping up to be one of the most consistent sitcoms ever. It’s always hilarious and the family relationship dynamics ring true. Every character is nuanced and impossible not to relate to.

Some of the best shows on TV right now are animated.
