ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Larry the Cable Guy doesn\u2019t care that he stinks at golf.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can hit the ball great on the driving range,\u201d the 52-year-old comedian said, \u201cbut when I get on the course, something happens.\u201d<\/p>\n

What happens is fairly obvious.<\/p>\n

Larry (whose real name is Dan Whitney) does what he does best: Entertains.<\/p>\n

He talks with fans. He jokes with his playing partners. He signs autographs and poses for photos. He might even say his trademark \u201cGit-R-Done.\u201d<\/p>\n

So pardon him if he bogeys a few holes at a charity golf tournament this past weekend in Orlando, or hits the ball in the rough.<\/p>\n

His caddie said it succinctly: \u201cThank goodness Larry keeps score in pencil. It allows him to use that eraser over and over again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Larry the Cable Guy finished 60th out of 65 celebrity golfers at the Diamond Resorts Invitational benefiting Florida Hospital for Children. Tennis player, Mardy Fish, won the tournament.<\/p>\n

But Larry didn\u2019t care. He once again had a ball. And he\u2019s going to play a few more charity golf tournaments over the next few months.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just love all the interaction with the fans,\u201d he said. \u201cThis event helps raise money for the kids. That\u2019s why I do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pop Culture Spin sat down with Larry for a few quick hit questions.<\/p>\n

Pop Culture Spin<\/strong>: You fly in from your home in Nebraska to play this golf tournament and you already are planning your stand-up comedy tour with Jeff Foxworthy. You\u2019ve made it. Why do you still hustle?<\/p>\n

Larry the Cable Guy<\/strong>: \u201cI just love what I do. I love the crowds. I love that people are enjoying themselves. You know that I\u2019m a home body. When I\u2019m not working, I\u2019m home. I never go anywhere. So this is fun to get out and do stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: We\u2019re doing a series on stand-up comedians. What do you think about the stand-up game today?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cAnytime you do stand-up, I respect you. And I respect the comedy, all kinds of comedy. You\u2019re just out there hustling. You\u2019re doing it. You\u2019re getting the crowd involved and making people laugh. I\u2019m with you. It\u2019s a tough business. Anybody that\u2019s doing it, it\u2019s awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: What do you tell young comedians trying to get in the game?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cJeff always told me this: It\u2019s called \u2018It\u2019s called Show Business\u2019 for a reason. Everybody likes to do the show part but not everyone likes to do the business part. You have to do anything necessary and anything it takes to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: What has Jeff meant to you?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cHe\u2019s one of my mentors. He taught me how to stay late to sign everyone\u2019s autograph. He showed me what it takes to be at the top of your game. He\u2019s always been interactive with fans, and so am I. He does it because he likes it. I really like it too. Jeff is a hard worker.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: Besides Jeff, who are some of your favorite comics?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cMy favorite is Nick DiPaolo. I also like Colin Quinn. Both are buddies of mine. Colin has some really funny specials.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: Do you still get nervous when you get on stage?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cOf course I get nervous. I get nervous all the time. If you don\u2019t get nervous, there is something wrong with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

PCS<\/strong>: Is there anything you haven\u2019t done that you\u2019d like?<\/p>\n

Larry<\/strong>: \u201cThere is not really anything. I\u2019ve done more than I thought I ever would. Anything else would just be icing on the cake.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
