Deron Williams sits with media, asks Avery Johnson who the best team in New York is

Posted on

The mood has definitely changed around the Brooklyn Nets now that the move to New York is, for all intents and purposes, complete. There is a light-heartedness around the team with Deron Williams and Reggie Evans filling up MarShon Brooks’ car with popcorn, for example, and now the latest during the Nets Media Day.

Williams, in full uniform, sat in with the media during Avery Johnson’s press conference and waited to ask the Nets head coach a question. When his turn came up, Williams, representing Deron Williams News, asked Johnson: “I think what everyone wants to know is, who is the best team in New York?”

Avery Johnson responded: “It’s not about having the best team in New York. My point guard talks about being the best team in the NBA and that’s what I want for him.”

Usually, there’s something about these professional sports teams that like to be playful. The fact that the Nets’ best player in D-Will is leading the charge says a lot about his happiness with his decision to re-sign with the Nets, as well as the tone that is being established for a team with high expectations. Because while Deron Williams is having fun with it, he’s led involuntary workouts with his teammates, most of whom showed up, since he returned from winning a gold medal in London.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, this is going to be a fun team to watch.
