Television Trailers: FOX’s ‘Red Band Society’

Red Band Society, which is coming this fall to Fox, is a show that seems well suited for anyone who was a fan of the box office hit (not to mention the novel) The Fault in Our Stars.

Based on the award-winning Spanish series Polseres Vermelles, the series follows a group a kids who live in a pediatric ward, each dealing with their own illnesses and ailments (one kid is in a coma, one has heart problems, one is dealing with cystic fibrosis, another has an eating disorder). Sounds like a laugh a minute, I know. But this dramedy aims to show young adults dealing with the normalcies of youth while living in a very abnormal place.

Could the show turn out to be cloying, emotion-provoking bunk? Absolutely. However, the show is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and his Amblin Television company, so there’s hope that the stories will have heart and gravitas while still managing to entertain. The cast is led by Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer (The Help), who leads the pediatric nursing staff, and Dave Annable (Brothers and Sisters) as the hospital’s chief pediatric surgeon.

Here’s the official synopsis from the show’s website:

What if a hospital was your high school, boarding school and summer camp rolled into one? What if it was the place where you fell in love for the first time and made friendships that lasted a lifetime? And what if it was all weirdly hilarious and the most fun you ever had in your entire life? This is the world of RED BAND SOCIETY.

The series premieres on Wednesday, September 17, at 9:00 on FOX.
