BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend Recap

0

This past weekend, some of the biggest stars in the world of hip-hop descended on Atlanta for the annual BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The event has taken place in Atlanta since 2006. Since that first year, the show manages to get a little bit bigger and little bit better with every incarnation.

Standing on BET’s green carpet, stars like Busta Rhymes, Common, T.I., Brandy, and more stopped to pose for pictures and take questions from the media before heading into the Civic Center for the show. Snoop Dogg returned for his second time hosting the event.

This year’s show didn’t lack for great performances.

Rae Srummurd kicked off the night by performing their hit, “No Flex Zone,” then T.I. and Young Thug performed their “About The Money” later in the show.

A special treat was when Brandy brought out Yo-Yo, Queen Latifah, and MC Lyte to perform the remix to Brandy’s hit “I Wanna Be Down.”

The best moment of the night came when Common brought together Jay Electronica, Vince Staples and the father of slain Missouri teen Mike Brown for a moment of silence.

If you didn’t attend the show, you were still in luck. The action outside of the Civic Center was as entertaining as what was inside.

Before the show kicked off Saturday afternoon, T.I. held his annual block party on Peters Street.

Around the corner from that, producer Drumma Boi held a dinner for the media to celebrate some of his accomplishments.

The producer behind hits like “Money To Blow” and Jeezy’s lead single “Me OK” was nominated for Producer of the Year this year.

To celebrate his nomination, he partied with members of the media. While everyone enjoyed drinks provided by Drumma’s new line of sparkling wines, Moreno, he spoke to us about some of the new things he’s working on, including the signing of 12-year-old DJ, DJ Baby Chino to his Drum Squad DJ’s team.

After the awards were over, everyone hit the streets and the clubs to continue the party. Most people ended their night at the Motown Midnight Brunch featuring Ne-yo.

The event was put together by Tree Sound Studios marketing and branding genius Mali Hunter. Attendees were treated to great food and cocktails provided by Tequila Avion and Corona. This was the perfect way to relax after a long day of party hopping and star gazing.

By the time Saturday turned to Sunday, BET could boast of another successful year celebrating the hip-hop culture.

The BET Hip-Hop awards will air on BET October 14th at 8 pm.
