So Ant-Man and Edgar Wright didn’t work out, and we’ll unfortunately never see his version, but the good news is that Wright has a new project we can all salivate over. Oh, and nobody from Disney will be cutting into it! The new project is called Baby Driver, and it’s scheduled to be released in March 2017. The film will star Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars), Lily James (Cinderella), and Jamie Foxx.
The plot consists of a crime boss that takes a young, skilled getaway driver under his wing. Elgort will be playing the driver; a kid that uses a personal soundtrack to manhandle the roads in front of him. Of course, he has to face his toughest challenge when a chaotic heist puts everything he cares for in danger.
It sounds enticing, and since Wright will be in the director’s chair, we’re hoping that it pays homage to films like Bullitt, Drive, French Connection, and so forth. The guy can direct an action sequence, as seen in The World’s End with the semi-serious hand-to-hand combat (where we can actually see what’s going on), so there’s high hopes that he’ll be awesome in directing car chases. Maybe Elgort will even drive a baby at some point in the film, who knows?
While Wright seems to be at his best when he’s working with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, he’s still pretty awesome when those two aren’t in the line-up. Having said that, it’s safe to say that most of us are hoping that the Cornetto Trilogy duo makes a cameo.
