Nicki Minaj Will Have an ABC Family Series. Huh?

Nicki Minaj is set to have an ABC Family series. Yes, that Nicki Minaj, the rapper one with the enormous physical features. Not the other one who is a distinguished career woman in her own respect.

Okay, I lied, there’s only one known Nicki Minaj, but my point is that it’s entirely baffling a major player in the hip-hop world will have a sitcom on such a childlike network, ABC Family. According to a Huffington Post article, the show will center around Minaj’s life as a youth growing up in Queens, New York.

The singer of hits like “Anaconda,” which has over 500,000,000 views on YouTube, no typo there, and “Super Bass,” which currently has even more, will appear in the show and act as an executive producer. The series will begin filming sometime this upcoming winter.

The aforementioned article cites an ABC executive who believes Minaj will be not only a draw because of her popularity, but also because of the nature of her story. The executive uses words like “hilarious” and “inspiring” to describe it.

Back in the early-1990s, Minaj came to the states from Trinidad. She truly is a story of unlikely success, and perhaps her show will present a different side of her, a lesser known one, to fans.

I like Minaj for the most part. She’s probably the best female rapper alive other than Jean Grae, yes, Minaj has the greater fame, but Grae is the stronger artist. What I’m saying is there’s nothing wrong with appreciating Minaj’s creative abilities. She also appears to be willing to go the extra mile for her fans and isn’t afraid to welcome beef rather than standing down.

That doesn’t mean I’ll be watching her show. It’s on ABC Family, after all, and I’d like to believe I still own a little component of human existence called dignity. But because it’s a Minaj project, maybe I’ll “accidentally” come across it when SportsCenter is on commercial. If it’s good, I might “accidentally” drop my remote and be too lazy to pick it up.

Only if it’s good, though. Count Nicki Minaj landing an ABC Family sitcom in the unexpected news of the day category.
