Found Family

This episode is a great example of the found family trope. After Julie Emrick was sexually assaulted, she doesn’t feel ready to see her parents and decides to stay in the dorm instead of visiting them. Felicity Porter decides to also stay at the dorm so she can make sure Julie isn’t lonely on Thanksgiving.

Ben Covington, Elena Tyler and Sean Blumberg have their own issues with their families and end up joining the dorm Thanksgiving: Ben finds out that his mother doesn’t really want him to visit; Elena gets sick of how distant her father is; Sean isn’t invited to his brother’s party.

As the group enjoys Thanksgiving dinner together, the end narration talks about the phenomenon of looking around and realizing you’re surrounded by family.

Food

Sean has a theory that by marathon eating power bars the day before Thanksgiving, he can expand the size of his stomach. When he’s not invited to his brother’s Thanksgiving party, he’s planning on eating foot long subs all day, until Ben invites him to join Felicity’s party.

Felicity and Julie don’t know what to do without a turkey or an oven, but fortunately Javier Clemente Quintata agrees to provide a huge turkey for everyone.

Julie gets upset while making sweet potatoes because they don’t look like the sweet potatoes her father makes. In that moment, she finally really opens up to Felicity about how she’s feeling.

Football

No football in this episode.

History

This episode doesn’t mention any of the history behind Thanksgiving.
