Watch It: Aretha Franklin Covers Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’ on Letterman

It’s logical to assume that Adele originally had visions of Aretha rolling in her head as she recorded her album 21, so it also makes perfect sense that the Queen of Soul would want to cover “Rolling in the Deep” on last night’s Letterman. What’s that you say? Aretha went ahead and mashed it up (flawlessly) with the Marvin Gaye/Tammy Terrell hit “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”? Well I’ll be gosh-darned.

I’m not so sure I’m on board with the amount of decolletage Ms. Franklin is sporting during this performance (she is 72 years old after all, and “the girls” are clearly doing their own thing in this dress), but her voice soon distracted me from these concerns.
