‘Goodfellas’ Cast to Reunite At Tribeca Film Festival

1

The cast of Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas is getting back together for the closing ceremonies of the 14th Tribeca Film Festival on April 25, 2015. The one and only Jon Stewart will be moderating the event after the audience watches a remastered, 4k edition of possibly the greatest gangster film of all time. Yes, perhaps even better than The Godfather.

Goodfellas was nominated for six Academy Awards, and brought home one golden statue for Best Supporting Actor, Joe Pesci. It lost to Dances With Wolves for Best Picture that year, although the loss took nothing away from Goodfellas‘ popularity and legacy. It was textbook Oscar politics that kept the gangster flick from winning what it deserved.

This is the film that made you want to be a gangster for a day, giving you a gritty inside look at the lifestyle. The movie has influenced many filmmakers, and continues to be regarded as Scorsese’s best work out of the many masterpieces in his filmography. It will be the 25th anniversary of the film this year, and Stewart will have the job that every film buff, film critic, and movie geek dreams of. Many will be looking forward to Stewart asking Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, and Joe Pesci about when they plan on making another film together. The trio is fried gold without a doubt, but they haven’t worked with each other since 1995’s Casino. The gangster genre needs to be revitalized, and who better to do it then these fellas?

Unless you’re lucky enough to be in attendance at the Tribeca Film Festival that day, there will be a 25th anniversary edition of the film released on May 5 that will include new interviews and a new documentary. This will be the fourth dip of this film for me and many others.

“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster”- Nicholas Pileggi
