The Boston Celtics are now two wins away from becoming the first NBA team in history to overcome a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series. With the Knicks playing scared, it just might happen.
Boston played with a calm confidence, not to mention a chip on their shoulder due in part to what J.R. Smith said and wore to the game.
On Tuesday, Smith said he’d have been playing golf instead of practicing if he hadn’t been suspended for Game 4. If that wasn’t enough fuel added to the fire, Knicks players wore black to the game as if they were heading to the Celtics’ “funeral.”
Big mistake.
The always passionate (crazy) Kevin Garnett went strong in the paint, putting up 16 points and grabbing 18 rebounds as the Celtics stayed alive with a 92-86 victory over the Knicks.
Jeff Green led a balanced Celtics scoring attack with 18 points, Paul Pierce had 16, and Brandon Bass added 17. Jason Terry came up big again with 17 off the bench.
After the game, J.R. Smith was still talking, this time he was right.
“Well, we was going to a funeral, but it looks like we got buried,” Smith said. “Basketball is a very humbling game.”
