Nowadays, everyone has to talk about contract extensions and future free agency even if it’s two years away. The next contestant on the game show is LaMarcus Aldridge who has been bombarded with questions about his pending free agency after the 2014-2015 season. The Blazers have publicly stated that signing Aldridge to a contract extension is a priority for the organization. Aldridge had a lot to say about the possibility of signing an extension before playing in New York versus the Knicks on Wednesday.

His value on the market: “As a player I feel like I have a good mind-set about this, just making sure that I’m not taken for granted and making sure that we’re in a good place.”

Focus during the season: “I haven’t gotten that far into it because I want to wait until this summer. But at that point, we’ll sit down and talk about it. … If we’re all on the same page, then I’m looking forward to it.”

Early season success: “We got off to a really hot start, which is good because now we have that cushion, Every team is going through that. This is the time of the year when the grind kind of catches up to you, so we’ve done a great job of putting ourselves in a really good position.”

Aldridge is unlikely to leave Portland but weirder things have happened. The Northwest deserves a good team so I’m hoping the Blazers’ core will stick together for the long run. – AL
