Donald Sterling is on the hunt to hire a major L.A. law firm to sue the NBA for suspending him and attempting to strip him of ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers … TMZ Sports has learned.
Sources familiar with the situation tell us … Sterling’s people were in touch with several law firms last week, including the powerhouse firm Glaser Weil. Patty Glaser is one of the top litigators in the country and has repped scores of celebs, including Conan O’Brien and Keith Olbermann.
And this is ironic … Paula Deen hired Glaser to defend her in the Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House case … where Deen admitted during a deposition she used the N word, FYI, Deen’s admission occurred long before Glaser took the case. TMZ Sports
There are several avenues Donald Sterling can traverse to retain ownership of the team, or even coerce other owners to vote against kicking him out of the owners’ circle. Mark Cuban spoke up about a potential “slippery slope” if the league owners voted to get rid of Sterling which got a lot of criticism from pundits everywhere. He could have further explained his comments but chose not to do so with good reason.
Players and owners all have skeletons in the closet that would be devastating if brought to light. One concern that Cuban likely has is Sterling’s ability to expose these skeletons during or prior to litigation. This fact is not lost on owners which is why an unanimous vote to force a Clippers’ sale is a premature assumption. If the vote is not unanimous, everyone will overreact without considering the potential ramifications of the result.
Vowing to kick Sterling out of the league was a bold proclamation. This is not an impossible task but it is a promise that might prove hard to keep. – AL
