Last night, San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich joined an elite group of coaches when he won his 1,000th game. Pop is the 9th coach to reach such rare air. The win came in true Spurs’ fashion.

San Antonio erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit on their way to a 95-93 win over the Indiana Pacers. Marco Belinelli sealed the deal when his baseline jumper landed with 2.1 seconds left.

Popovich joined the likes of Don Nelson, Lenny Wilkins, Jerry Sloan, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, George Karl, Rick Adelman, and Larry Brown, the man he replaced in San Antonio, as the only NBA coaches with 1000 wins.

Only Pat Riley and Phil Jackson were able to reach the plateau quicker than Popovich.

As coach, Popovich led the Spurs to 17 consecutive playoff appearances, 16 50-win seasons, four 60-win seasons, six Finals appearances and five championships, while taking home three Coach of the Year awards.

Phil Jackson and Pat Riley might’ve had more star power as coaches, but no coach has ever given a post-game interviews like Pop. His Marshawn Lynch like ability to answer without an answer has became must-see TV!

Check out some of Coach Popovich’s best post-game sound bytes below.
