The Rock Set to Star in ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ Remake

Jack Burton is back! Unfortunately, Kurt Russell will not be playing him. John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China will be remade with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson filling in for Russell, which definitely isn’t the worst choice in the world.

The original Big Trouble in Little China is a cheesy good time, but it’s not exactly untouchable, so remaking it might not be a bad idea. The Rock actually pitched the idea of remaking the flick because he’s so fond of the 1980’s Carpenter B-movie. He doesn’t have quite the same goofball charm as Mr. Russell, but he can be a goofball in his own right, and he definitely has the charisma.

Not to mention, The Rock got to work with the original Jack Burton in Furious 7, and more than likely got his blessing. The original film is such an entertaining flick, as it’s a concoction of Hong Kong martial arts magic and brawny American gusto. The Rock will definitely have a good time getting behind the wheel of the Pork Chop Express.

Joining The Rock on this project is Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who wrote the script for X-Men: First Class. There isn’t a director attached to the project yet, but hopefully they’ll find someone that’s worthy. Hell, maybe John Carpenter himself can take the reigns and go back to a world that he helped create. It worked for George Miller and Mad Max: Fury Road. Just one request: can we have a cameo from Kurt Russell? And maybe he can say one of his lines from the original: “Everybody relax, I’m here.” Yeah, that’d be nice.

Let’s see who Hollywood thinks is worthy to direct this flick.
