Dwyane Wade has been giving the Miami Heat some discounted deals when it comes to his services over the last few seasons. Apparently that has all got to change if Wade is to stay a member of the Heat.
According to Fox Sports, “A Wade associate has told people that Wade would welcome a contract averaging $20 million annually over the next three years. … Wade’s agent, Henry Thomas, politely declined to confirm that or anything regarding Wade’s specific financial expectations.” Wade, 33, is currently earning $16.1 million a season
For a player with a laundry list of health issues that seems like a hefty price tag. The Heat appear to feel the same way. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald was the first to break this story, and apparently Barry believe the Heat were actually looking for Wade to take a pay cut so they could go after a big-name free agent next summer.
While the source is very credible, the lack of comments from Wade or his agent have to make you believe there is some truth to it. I wonder if Wade would choose money or a title shot when looking a free agency? Though I’m not sure five more titles could convince him to leave South Beach for Cleveland.
I’m just saying.
