Here at Pop Culture Spin we refuse to accept that Halloween is only one day. We’re going to be celebrating Halloween all month, by highlighting one of our favorite Halloween episodes every day. Today’s we’re looking at the Parks and Recreation episode “Greg Pikitis.”
Basic Info
Directed by: Dean Holland
Written by: Michael Schur
Episode Number: Season 2, Episode 7
Where to Watch It: Netflix
Why It’s Great
In this episode, Leslie is obsessed with catching a teen named Greg Pikitis who vandalizes a statue every year. She recruits Dave and Andy to help her. Amy Poehler, Louie CK and Chris Pratt are an amazing comedy trio together.
Greg Pikitis is a formidable villain. It’s great watching Leslie get worked up with anger at him. There is so much intensity in her delivery of, “Like a turd. Like a little turd.” He even makes Andy cry, although Andy insists, “I’m not crying. I’m just allergic to jerks.”
This episode also gives us the introduction of Andy’s Bert Macklin, FBI persona!
Why It’s Full of Halloween Spirit
Halloween is all about rebelling against authority. This episode is unusual since it’s from the perspective of the authority figure, which is why in order to work we have to see Greg outsmart Leslie and Leslie sink to his level.
Meanwhile, Ann throws a party. She goes into it excited because Halloween is her favorite holiday. She also refuses to invite Tom. But, the party turns out to be a dud and when Tom shows up he actually turns things around. It’s a lesson in breaking free of yourself and your inhibitions on Halloween.
