Colangelo Brings Credibility to the 76ers

Jerry Colangelo has a great deal of experience as an NBA executive.

The 76ers’ new Chairman of Basketball Operations and special adviser to managing owner Josh Harris began working in the league 47 years ago with the Phoenix Suns. He’s been a coach, general manager, president and CEO, as well as managing director of the USA Basketball men’s team.

Colangelo’s contacts with the league’s owners, GMs and agents could be the most important thing he brings to the Sixers.

“He gives them instant credibility,” said an NBA source. “The trust factor throughout the league will be a huge asset for the Sixers.”
It’s not realistic to think Colangelo’s familiarity with Thunder star Kevin Durant via USA Basketball would make a player of Durant’s caliber choose the Sixers when he becomes a free agent next summer. But he could help convince a second-tier guy to come here. The Intelligencer
