adidas today launched the XENO cleat collection – the first baseball cleats to feature adidas’ revolutionary XENO technology. As the pioneer of #CLEATHEAD culture, adidas continues to bring sneaker trends to cleats and the XENO collection marks a new era of style, innovation and performance for baseball.
XENO (pronounced “Z-No”) Technology is both responsive and reflective. In natural light, the black material appears faint with deep shimmers of iridescent colors. But with the flash of a camera or light, the XENO material explodes with a spectrum of bright colors and the cleats are completely transformed and continue to change appearance with shifts in movement and the angle of light.
The XENO inspiration was drawn from the Xenopeltis snake found in Southeast Asia, known for its highly iridescent scales. adidas has a long history of incorporating snakeskin patterns and reflective materials into design, but XENO pushes the combined look to revolutionary heights.
The 2017 adizero Afterburner 3
Engineered for the game’s fastest 5-tool players, the new adizero Afterburner 3 is the lightest cleat in the game at 9.3 oz. This iteration features reflective XENO material draped onto the lightweight Sprintskin upper and tongue. The XENO design sit atop a full-length LITESTRIKE EVA midsole for increased cushioning and comfort.
The 2017 Energy Boost Icon 2
The new Energy Boost Icon 2 features a redesigned upper with a street-inspired, reflective XENO TECHFIT bootie and a molded heel clip with a color-shifting treatment. For game changing comfort, the XENO design sits atop a full-length Energy Boost midsole.
For dynamic acceleration and traction, both the adizero Afterburner 3 and Energy Boost Icon 2 feature a PROTRAX cleat configuration with a matte finish plate treatment with rainbow cleat tips, balancing out the XENO upper and providing a stealth look to the bottom of the cleats.
The XENO adizero Afterburner 3 is available for $100 and the XENO Energy Boost Icon 2 is available today for $120 each at www.adidas.com.
