Warner Brothers’ 2016 anti-hero flick based on the Suicide Squad comic book has its key players. David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) is set to direct the bad-guys-turned-good flick with some key A-listers joining him. Jared Leto is set to portray the Joker with Margot Robbie as his Harley Quinn. Another Batman villain, Deadshot will be played by Will Smith. Oh, and we’ve got us some Tom Harvey as well. Long time DC author and COO Geoff Johns will be executive producing along with Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder– the newest DC movie staples.
I have always fallen into the the supportive camp for Will Smith and the ambivalent camp of Jared Leto, so I can’t say I am ecstatic about the casting decisions. What I can talk about is my long-term grudge for Warner Bros making bad decisions with DC movies. Their Green Lantern and Superman Returns absolutely devastated me as a fan of both comics; and their choices to completely disregard Wonder Woman up until the new Batman V Superman absolutely devastated me as a fan and a lady. I am sure there are others who feel the whole DC Cinematic Universe has much to prove to comic readers (and people with decent taste in general) before we can fully hop on board. I want to support these films and get excited for Harley Quinn getting a headline in a film, but having been bitten at least 2 times, I am 2000 times shy. For now, I am not sold I need to shell out 12 bucks to see any of these in theatres.
