Basic Info

Directed by: Tyree Dillihay

Written by: Lizzie Mollyneaux & Wendy Mollyneaux

Episode Number: Season 3, Episode 5

Where to Watch It: Netflix

Found Family

This episode is all about actual relatives. Bob is excited to spend Thanksgiving with his family, but Mr. Fischoeder asks Linda and the kids to pose as his family so he can win over a woman who’s only attracted to married men. Bob isn’t interested, but he can’t say no when Mr. Fischoeder offers to let the family’s rent slide for five months if they go along with the charade.

But, when the kids are actually competing for Fischoeder’s love and ignoring Bob (who’s posing as the family’s cook), Bob gets too emotional to let the masquerade continue. In the end, the family doesn’t get the rent-free months they were hoping for, but at least they’re together for Bob’s favorite holiday.

Food

Bob loves turkeys. He event talks to them. He names this year’s turkey Lance and while he’s upset, Lance tells him to drink absinthe. While Bob is drunk, he tells the family, “You people don’t deserve to eat Lance. Lance is my friend.”

He also has several traditions tied to the turkey. He and Tina always break the wishbone together, while he and Louise use the giblets to re-enact CSI.

Football

Bob and Gene play football every year. He tries to get Gene to sneak away from the Fischoeder dinner to play with him in the kitchen, but Gene leaves when they’ve barely started playing. In the end, Gene apologizes and tells him, “I promise to tackle you every day for the rest of my life.”

History

This episode doesn’t bring up the history behind Thanksgiving.
