Hot Pockets Snack Bites for the impatient, time-challenged; also, not bad!

You think of Hot Pockets and you probably don’t think of them as a product geared toward better health or promoting a more consistent dietary lifestyle, which, fair enough, they weren’t necessarily made with that in mind. That said, the new Hot Pockets Snack Bites did have the latter in mind, or rather, are aiming to fit into that groove of more frequent eating with an emphasis of leaning toward better impact on the body.

In this first-person account, I tried the Hot Pockets Snack Bites in Pepperoni Pizza. I was fairly impressed. It’s branded as a “Flaky Crust” Hot Pockets product and that’s true, depending on how you cook them. Here’s my honest opinion of the HPSB — I think they’re a moderately enjoyable snack. They’re not what you would call an ideal *meal*, but they can be dressed up with some things like marinara sauce or (*gag*) ranch dressing. They’d be great with carrots to help fill your stomach. I think they’re a solid food product.

I didn’t feel that they were seasoned spectacularly, but they are fairly tasty when your stomach is grumbling. HPSB are good either in the microwave or in the oven, and I tried them both ways and enjoyed them; I prefer them from the microwave, as the doughy puff absorbs more of the spices and sauce filling from the inside (HPSB cooked in the oven isn’t as flavorful — the flaky crust is there, but it lacks the absorption of flavor of the inside contents).

HPSB are a solid in-between-meals food to eat. They’re geared for the in-between times or those awkward times that you need sustenance, but you don’t have the time to really cook up a meal and strike out for food. They’re really convenient to prepare and palatable (college kids are a key demographic, as they should be for these).

Health-wise, HPSB in the signature Pepperoni Pizza flavor is made with “reduced-fat mozzarella cheese in a flaky crust; available in 9-oz. or 24-oz. packs; with 7 grams of protein and 230 calories per a serving of four pieces”. In other words, they’re not the empty calories that you might expect.

My recommendation for you is to check these out if you’re frequently busy at home with tasks that sometimes leave you without the time and convenience to make an elaborate meal in the moment. Families and young adults alike can appreciate HPSB and enjoy them.

Just have a sauce ready to dress up the flavor a little more if you’re into that sort of thing.
