The Indiana Pacers were defeated by the Sacramento Kings 108-97 Saturday night. After a tough game against the Warriors, the Pacers needed a victory to round out a their west coast road trip, but hanks to a career night from DeMarcus Cousins the win was out of reach. Even a fourth-quarter explosion from Paul George was not enough.
Coming into the game, the Kings were on a four-game winning streak. Sacramento was up six after the first, and five at halftime. Fantastic shooting and solid team defense was the cornerstone for a strong third quarter for Sacramento. The Kings built their lead to 11 in the third, and never gave it up, despite the heroics from Paul George in the fourth. However, it was not Paul George’s night as DeMarcus Cousins stole the show, scoring 11 straight points in the fourth to ice the game for good. It was Cousins eight 30-point game of the season, and his big night gave the Kings four straight wins against the Pacers.
The Kings are currently 8th in the West while Sacramento hasn’t made the playoffs in ten years. The Kings have now won eight of their last 11, while the Pacers were just 1-4 on their recent road trip. Paul George scored 24 of his 34 in the second half. Jordan Hill added a double-double. Myles Turner continued his strong play, scoring 11 points and blocking five shots. On the other side of the ball, Willie Cauley-Stein grabbed 11 rebounds, Rajon Rondo recorded his second straight triple-double, and of course, there was DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins scored 48 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while shooting 13-20 from the free-throw line and 17-29 overall. It was one of his best games in the NBA, and it helped guide the Kings to the win.
