I’m continuing my countdown of the best characters on TV right now. I looked at a variety of shows to find the most intriguing and entertaining characters, the ones that make you want to bingewatch a season in a day or make sure that you catch each new episode the second it airs. Don’t forget to go back and look at my choices for 100-91 and 90-81.
80. Louise Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)
Louise is hilarious when she’s being badass and terrifying, but her vulnerable side is what makes her a truly great character. The show nails her distinct voice while still always remembering that she’s a little girl.
79. Lucas Friar (Girl Meets World)
Lucas serves as much more than a cute love interest. He’s at his best when the show is focusing on developing his friendships. His genuine goodness and respect for all of his classmates are part of what make Girl Meets World such a sweet show.
78. Mike Ross (Suits)
The guy who can get out of any situation because of his genius has been done over and over, but what makes Mike Ross so interesting is that he also really wants to at least try to do the right thing. He’s often torn because he enjoys the con, but only when he can justify it morally.
77. Poussey Washington (Orange is the New Black)
Poussey is a fun character whose smile can light up a room, but her sadness and loneliness also provide some of the most emotionally raw moments on the show. She’s perfect in all of her three-dimensional imperfection.
76. Blake Henderson (Workaholics)
What makes Blake fun is a sense of sweet innocence that’s refreshing along with his love of smoking and partying. He has some of the funniest lines on TV and always delivers them with a distinct earnestness.
75. Topanga Lawrence-Matthews (Girl Meets World)
Topanga was everyone’s role model growing up in the ’90s and the adult version of herself hasn’t disappointed. She’s the kind of person viewers aspire to be, but she also has flaws, in particular how competitive and stubborn she can be.
74. Farkle Minkus (Girl Meets World)
When Farkle was introduced, he was egotistical and creepy, sure he was the smartest person in the room and obsessed with Maya and Riley. He’s stayed flawed enough to be three-dimensional, but has shown incredible growth. Some of the greatest scenes on the show involve him learning to respect and appreciate Maya and Riley more and more.
73. Adam DeMamp (Workaholics)
Adam DeMamp walks an interesting line. He’s not as blatantly sad and creepy as, say, the guys on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, but there are reminders throughout the show that he’s a deeply messed up person. He’s a big part of the show’s unique tone and how it blends carefree partying with a sense of quiet disappointment.
72. Gene Belcher (Bob’s Burgers)
Gene’s love of attention, fixation on old ’90s/’80s movies and gender dysphoria have created a unique and memorable character. He delivers a lot of the show’s best punchlines, with his fantastic enthusiasm.
71. Amy Brookheimer (Veep)
Amy is probably the Veep character its easiest for the audience to identify with, since she is always frustrated and exhausted by the incompetence on display around her. She really shined in the show’s last season, in particular when she finally let out all of her frustrations with Selina and her administration.
