Running Backs

Top Picks – guys you HAVE to start if you have them

  1. Alvin Kamara vs. New York Giants –  Kamara has been a beast in terms of touches in both the passing and rushing game.  The Giants don’t contain backs very well in either aspect, so he figures to be featured heavily.
  2. Melvin Gordon vs. San Francisco – The 49ers defense has not been great, and because of the injury to Jimmy G, they could be on the field a LOT more than usual. Expect the Chargers to use Gordon to pound the 49ers into submission.
  3. Ezekiel Elliott vs. Detroit – Even if the passing isn’t there in big chucks, Dallas runs it’s entire offense through Zeke.  He’ll be the main guy again this week.

Players to watch – players worth picking up if you didn’t already

  1. Matt Breida vs. Los Angeles Chargers – With a new QB in the mix Breida could get a ton of touches.  He’s also a guy that can catch passes and QB’s that aren’t feeling confident check the ball down more than they air it out.
  2. Austin Ekeler vs. San Francisco – If you figure the Chargers are going to decimate the 49ers, Ekeler might get most of the work in the second half.  He’s worth a look.

Players to avoid – I’d rather not start these guys if I can avoid it

  1. Jay Ajayi vs. Tennessee – Still dealing with the injury, he may not play at all.
  2. LeSean McCoy vs. Green Bay – It seems like the Bills are content to let Shady take as much time as he wants coming back.

Draft King Bargains – decent matchups you can pick up on the cheap

  1. Matt Breida vs. Los Angeles Chargers ($5,800)– As mentioned, he figures to be the featured offensive weapon of the week.
  2. Carlos Hyde vs. Oakland ($5,500) – Oakland has been having a tough time against the run, and Hyde might be used more to help Mayfield adjust in his first full game.
  3. Giovani Bernard vs. Atlanta ($6,300) – Atlanta has struggled on defense a lot and the Bengals like to set a ton with a balanced run attack.  Bernard should be the guy getting the bulk of those carries.

Wide Receivers

Top Picks – guys you HAVE to start if you have them

  1. Odell Beckham Jr. vs. New Orleans – The Saints secondary has looked bad, I mean really bad, at times.  Given how many points I expect them to put up, I’ll expect the Giants to be forced to pass to keep pace.
  2. Michael Thomas vs. New York Giants – Thomas has been sensational and doesn’t look to stop that this week.
  3. DeAndre Hopkins vs. Indianapolis – Hopkins gets a high volume of targets and makes the most of them.  Indy is suffering on the back end and should give up big numbers to a top flight WR.

Players to watch – players worth picking up if you didn’t already

  1. Antonio Callaway vs. Oakland – The Browns will feature a different passing attack with Baker making the calls. This could be a breakout week for Callaway, and he could be worth a WR2 spot moving forward.
  2. Geronimo Allison vs. Packers – This is all about the Packers secondary looking very week. He’s becoming a more trusted target for Allen, and the Bills figure to be behind in this one.

Players to avoid – I’d rather not start these guys if I can avoid it

  1. Quincy Enunwa vs. Jacksonville – The Jags defense is too good.
  2. Chris Hogan vs. Miami – Miami has a tricky decent defense, and Hogan figures to be the forgotten man with Josh Gordon in the fray.

Draft King Bargains – decent matchups you can pick up on the cheap

  1. Will Fuller V vs. Indianapolis ($6,800) – Indy has a bad defense and Fuller will get his opportunities against them
  2. Kenny Golladay vs. Dallas ($6,500) – Dallas is O.K. against the pass, but they are better against the run. Golladay figures to be a good match-up
  3. Tyler Boyd vs. Atlanta ($4,600) – He’s done too well and is still too cheap to not take here.

Quarterbacks

Top Picks – guys you HAVE to start if you have them

  1. Patrick Mahomes vs. Denver – He’s been doing way too well.  I know Denver is a tough defense, but still.
  2. Drew Brees vs. New York Giants – Brees has been crushing it this season (as he does most seasons), and the Giants are just going to be the next victim.
  3. Philip Rivers vs. San Francisco – The 49ers are not great on defense, and the bad offense means Rivers should get more chances.

Players to watch – players worth picking up if you didn’t already

  1. Dak Prescott vs. Detroit – He’s played very poorly this season. If he has another bad week I’d be willing to drop him.
  2. Josh Allen vs. Green Bay – Let’s see how the kid does when teams take him seriously for a week.

Players to avoid – I’d rather not start these guys if I can avoid it

  1. Kirk Cousins vs. Jaguars – The Jags defense is too good. I’d avoid starting QB’s against them all season.
  2. Derek Carr vs. Cleveland – The Browns are better than you’d assume on defense. Oakland has also looked HORRIBLE.

Draft King Bargains – decent matchups you can pick up on the cheap

  1. Andy Dalton vs. Atlanta ($5,400) – The Falcons have a bad back end, and The Bengals have had more time to prep.  I like Dalton to have a big day.
  2. Baker Mayfield vs. Oakland ($5,300)– It’s all about how bad the Raiders have been.  I expect a solid game from the kid.

Tight Ends

Top Picks – guys you HAVE to start if you have them

  1. Rob Gronkowski vs. Miami – The best tight end in the game, you can’t ignore him.
  2. Travis Kelce vs. Denver – Denver is going to have a great pass rush at times, so check-downs to Hunt and Kelce might be the way KC wins.
  3. Zack Ertz vs. Tennessee –  He’s the third best TE in the game, and Tennessee isn’t set up to stop TE’s.

Players to watch – players worth picking up if you didn’t already

  1. Trey Burton vs. Tampa Bay – Tampa has been horrible at covering the TE’s this season.  Burton could have a big day, especially since Trubisky can’t seem to throw the ball more than 15 yards down the field.
  2. Tyler Eifert vs. Atlanta – The recent injuries at safety mean that the middle of the field is extra juicy for pass catchers against the Falcons, and Eifert figures to exploit that.

Players to avoid – I’d rather not start these guys if I can avoid it

  1. Jared Cook vs. Cleveland – The Browns are good at shutting down TE’s and Cook won’t be any different.
  2. George Kittle vs. Los Angeles Chargers – The Chargers have a good enough defense that I think the new QB in San Francisco is going to have a hard time finding anyone.

Draft King Bargains – decent matchups you can pick up on the cheap

  1. Eric Ebron vs. Houston ($3,600) – The Titans are going to be forced to check the ball down, and Ebron is going to be the guy.
  2. David Njoku vs. Oakland ($3,200) – Baker is going to spread the ball around, and he and Njoku had a great connection in preseason.

Defenses

Top Picks – teams you HAVE to start if you have them

  1. Jacksonville vs. New York Jets – Sam Darnold hasn’t looked good against alright defenses, the Jags could eviscerate him.
  2. Cleveland vs. Oakland – The Browns have a sneaky good defense.  I imagine Gruden will be unprepared for the pass rush.
  3. Los Angeles Chargers vs. San Francisco – I like good defenses against inexperienced QB’s

Teams to watch – teams worth picking up if you didn’t already

  1. Minnesota vs. Los Angeles – The Vikings got slapped last week by Buffalo.  Let’s see if they bring an A game this week.
  2. Miami vs. New England – Miami is 3 – 0, I’ll be curious to see how they handle their division rivals.

Teams to avoid – I’d rather not start these guys if I can avoid it

  1. Denver vs. Kansas City – The KC offense is too good on too many levels.  Yes Mahomes could still have a stinker game, but I’m not seeing any reason to think it will be this week.
  2. Baltimore vs. Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh can go off, or stink.  I’d rather no roll the dice with more attractive matchups around the league.

Draft King Bargains – decent matchups you can pick up on the cheap

  1. Houston vs. Indianapolis ($2,700) – They stunk last week, but I do expect a rebound within the division.
  2. Cleveland vs. Oakland ($2,900) – The Browns are too cheap and could put up big numbers.
