26 Days of Thanksgiving Episodes: Blair Waldorf Must Pie! (Gossip Girl)

We’re counting down the days to Thanksgiving by looking at a variety of Thanksgiving-themed TV episodes. Thanksgiving episodes are all different, but they have lots of tropes in common. Today we’re looking at the Gossip Girl episode “Blair Waldorf Must Pie!”

Found Family

Even though Blair and Serena are fighting, Serena is the first person Blair calls when she’s tempted to start binging and purging again. Serena rushes over and they decide to ditch Blair’s mom’s party.

Dan, Erik and Jenny face family problems of their own and the group meets up at a diner.

Food

The episode opens with a flashback where Dan picks up some pies for his family’s Thanksgiving. When he sees a drunk Serena, he drops the pies to run to help her.

After Serena and Blair fight, her family gets uninvited to Blair’s family’s Thanksgiving dinner, which means her mom has to figure out how to cook for the family. When Serena tells Dan how horrifying the prospect of her mother cooking is, he invites them over to his apartment. His mom has cooked a huge meal, mostly out of guilt for leaving the family.

Blair gets angry at her mom when her mom not only doesn’t invite her father to Thanksgiving, but sends the pie he gave them down the doorman. This causes her to experience a relapse with her eating disorder and start to binge eat another pie.

When Serena, Blair, Dan, Erik and Jenny all meet up, they eat fries at a diner. Lily joins them.

At the end of the episode, Blair and her mother reconcile and eat dessert together.

The Humphreys all go to a park and toss a football around together.

History

This episode doesn’t have any references to the history of Thanksgiving.
