Commentary: Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Varsity Red’ returns ‘remastered’

It goes without saying that the Nike Air Jordan I is arguably the most iconic sneaker in basketball history. With all due respect to the Converse All-Star Chuck Taylor, the Air Jordan I changed the destiny of footwear and equipment in the game of basketball.

With that said, it returns in its original form as the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG ‘Varsity Red’, but ‘remastered’ in premium leather and a restored shape from the original 1985 version, through the Jordan Brand.

Previously in other releases, the other Retro versions all had the same soul, but didn’t translate to exact specifications of the original; now remastered, the Varsity Red reclaims its heritage to the full.

Of all the the 29 Air Jordan signature shoes, this is certainly in the top 10. Some would say it’s still the best of the bunch, but I don’t share that opinion. I like the shoe a lot and it’s refreshing to see it come back with distinction. The high price tag for the shoe is a bit much, as paying $200 with tax for a basketball shoe seems like a personal reach for me, but when viewed a heritage/luxury item with durability, it helps the case of such a purchase.

Good job, Brand Jordan.
