The Golden State Warriors didn’t look its strongest during much of Game 5. Nevertheless, a Klay Thompson explosion and recently announced MVP, Stephen Curry, arriving late made it enough to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers. The final score was 125-121.

This may have been a 4-1 series win for the Warriors, but it was extremely competitive. The Warriors shot 51.2 percent from the field in Game 5, 43.8 percent from deep, and 86.2 percent from the line. They had 16 turnovers.

Portland went 41.3 percent from the floor, 44.4 percent on triples, and 74.4 percent on free throws with 10 turnovers.

Thompson’s huge game looked like this – 33 points on 13-17 shooting and 6-9 on threes. He found himself in a serious rhythm and made many deep threes of the catch-and-shoot variety.

Curry, who was quiet early on, finished with 29 points and 11 assists. His most impressive of his 5 three makes was an off balance dagger in the fourth quarter over Al-Farouq Aminu. Aminu finished with 16 points and 9 boards, capping off an immensely strong series for him personally.

Damian Lillard had another of his volume shooting games, a facet that was too common for the Blazers to have a realistic chance in this series. He went 7-24 from the field for his 28 points, although he did hit all 12 free-throw attempts.

C.J. McCollum had a nice game with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 5 dimes, and just a single turnover. Allen Crabbe also pitched in with 20 points on 9 shots.

It’s worth noting that Andrew Bogut left this game with a lower body injury. Draymond Green also appeared hobbled for a sequence. Bogut was unable to return while Green kept playing.

For now, the Warriors advance to the Western Conference Finals to face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or San Antonio Spurs. The Blazers begin an offseason after an unexpectedly awesome season that few anticipated.
