The Lobster has the chance to be unlike any movie you have ever come across. Starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, this dystopian comedy/drama features an unusual plot — single people are sent away to find a romantic partner, and if they are unable to find a suitable mate, they become beasts and are sent into “The Woods.”
It borders on lunacy from a plot perspective, but if the audience is able to fully invest in this alternate world that gives ample warning by labeling itself a dystopian movie, The Lobster might work. Various film festivals have already praised the movie.
The Lobster has various release dates: September 27 in the United States, September 30 in Canada, and during mid-October in the United Kingdom. The dates are largely different because Farrell’s movie will be premiering at a selection of film festivals.
Farrell and Weisz are typically reliable for a great performance. Behind this pair and the inclusion of John C. Reilly, The Lobster warrants a chance on its cast and unique premise alone.
